Belgian textile machinery industry

The Belgian textile machinery industry is active in machinery for the production of indoor textiles (floor covering, carpets, upholstery, velvet, table – bed linen …), garment textiles and technical textiles. Belgium produces the fastest air jet weaving machines in the world. It is the worldwide technological leader for all machinery related to woven and tufted floor covering. Belgium is also pushing the boundaries on new coating technologies that have an environmental footprint of a mouse in comparison to elephant-like footprints of standard methods. Belgium is also increasing its market share rapidly in the equipment business for the production of man-made fibers. Belgium is at the technology frontier on electronic and digital inspection & monitoring & control of textile production processes.

Belgian textile machinery companies pursue technological leadership strategies. That approach materializes in the continuous presence of textile machinery companies in the top 5 of Belgian patent applications. The textile machinery industry is strongly export driven with a core of high-tech demanding EU customers for fast cross sectorial product development, in addition to our main export markets being the European Union, United States, China, Turkey and India.

The Belgian textile machinery is part of the bigger Belgian machinery cluster.

Belgian machinery Industry

The machinery industry is the fourth biggest industry sector in Belgium measured by employment and added value. To position its customers in the pole, the Belgian machinery industry is strongly R&D driven. It is the nation’s third biggest investor in R&D. It invests 9% of its added value in R&D and employs over 10% of the total Belgian research head count. In the last decade, the industry accelerated its research efforts on energy efficiency and achieved an average energy consumption reduction for its products of 18%. The long term strategy directs the Belgian machinery industry towards continuous innovation to accelerate its product development rate and provide its customers with leading edge technology. The Belgian machinery industry is the nation’s 4th exporter.
